Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum
The mausoleum of Dr. Sun, the great revolutionary forerunner of China, is situated at the southern foot of the Purple Mountain. The mausoleum began its construction in the spring of 1926 and was completed in the spring of 1929. It covers an area of 80,000 square meters, and is 73 meters above the ground and 158 meters above sea level, with a 392-step granite stairway leading up to the memorial hall. The layout of the structure is designed in liberty bell.
