Lanzhou

Situated in the middle of the Gansu Province, Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu Province, has a history of more than 2,000 years.

In ancient times, it used to be of strategic importance on the well-traveled ancient Silk Road, Huoqubing, famous general of the Han Dynasty stationed his troops here and Xuanzang(602-664), eminent Buddhist monk of the Tang Dynasty also passed though this place on his pilgrimage way to India. The Yellow River runs through the city.

Lanzhou began to flourish after the appearance of the Silk Road but little has happened in Lanzhou since the decline of the Silk Road at the end of the Tang dynasty.  Even it is well-known as an industrial city, Lanzhou may pleasantly surprise visitors with some of its grand sights, including Green Corridor along Binhe Road, five Springs Mountain, White Pagoda Mountain, Sun Yat-sen Bridge, Waterwheel Garden, Sculptures of the Mother River.
